So I have decided to focus on well-being this month in an effort to feel more balanced in my life. It is one of the areas that I feel could use the most work. Health, wellness, clarity, all the good stuff.
The first area I wanted to focus on was sleep. Should've been easy, right. Who doesn't want more sleep! Wrong. I feel as though I have been.... challenged(???) with this. Here is a sleep journal for the first week:
Night 1 - in bed at 10 pm, lights out at 10:30.
still awake at 11:30.
still awake at midnight, so I got up, made some tea and watched a movie.
back in bed at 1:30, woke up at 7:20am
Night 2 - in bed at 10 pm. I was super tired from the shorter amount of sleep the night before, so I thought I would fall asleep easily. wrong. I was up at midnight again.
Night 3 - in bed at midnight (the weekend) and slept in until 8:30 in the morning. This was awesome!
Night 4 - in bed at 10:30 pm. maybe 10 was too early!!, asleep by 11:30.
Something is not working. I have decided to try and calm myself down before bed a little differently. Maybe that will help.
For the second week I am going to have a cup of tea at around 8:30. I have heard a lot about the wonders of chamomile, lets see if it works for me! Hopefully week 2 is a bit better!!
The next area that I want to focus on is diet. Not going on a diet, just our diet in general. As a family I feel like we eat pretty healthfully already. We don't really eat out (especially fast food - its a MAJOR treat for our kids). We try to focus on eating more veggies and fruit. All the good things. One of the areas that I think we could improve in this area is with the 'quick' food'. Let me explain.
I work outside of the home full time, so when I get home dinner needs to be on the table quickly... or we eat at 8 pm. Which isn't so good for kids. And nobody wants to eat eggs or salad every night. I need healthful meals that are ready to eat quickly. I don't have time to hem and haw over whats for dinner- that's when we make bad decisions.
And the worst part is when we finally decide, I start making it, and halfway through we discover we are missing one very small, very crucial ingredient. that's the worst.
This week I am going to make a meal plan. Just dinners. That way, we will already know what we are going to have for dinner a week in advance. I will make sure we have all the ingredients before the week starts, thus avoiding the dreaded last minute, in the middle of cooking dash to the store. And my husband can start to prepare dinner before I get home (dreaming....) allowing me to spend more time with the kids. It sounds like a win-win situation!
Wish me luck!
